This also reminds me of childhood, actually of my grandma's house.
I don't even know if she made it but toast with butter and jam always reminds me of her

Ever been craving childhood??
That was me today.
My mom must have known.
She made my old time favorite,
Macaroni and tomatoe juice, sounds nasty I know,
but someday come to my house and i'll make it for you...
you'll love it.

I spent the day thinking about people who have truly impacted my life
in ways I cannot even begin to describe.
My friend Aspen, is one of the main people who has impacted my life!
I've known her as long as I can remember, we've gone through everything together.
Divorces, remarriages, we changed schools together 3 times,
we've been with each other through moves, through everything.
So I thought I'd share some of my memories with her...

Yes, i know we have cute outfits...
We went to California together with our moms and siblings,
it was probably my favorite trip, even now.
We wore matching sweat outfits when ever it was cold...

See...

The boat ride

The typical Shelbie Aspen relationship...
She was usually the one who was cute in pictures, and listened to the rules,
read all the signs are careful followed their directions...
I was usually the one looking like a doof, intentionally breaking the rules,
reading the signs and doing the exact opposite of what they said...
It was us :)
After we ran through the water park :)
(Funny story I thought I'd share. On this trip Aspen's mom really wanted to go on a free fall,
but no one wanted to go. So she bribed us... A stuffed animal if we went on the ride.
We were all sorts of in, so we got in line and waited, forever it seemed.
Finally we got on, it was amazingly fun!
We had so much fun we told her if she took us again she could have the stuffed anima
l and the 5 dollars she owed us from earlier,She said no. Why?
Because she had peed her pants!
Well I think... that's how I remember it anyways :>....
Nicole if you ever read this.... sorry I had to share it)

Our sister's used to be good friends too...
Um I like how we all look terrified in this picture...
Except lexi, who has a sort of evil smirk...

We often looked like we had just woken up in pictures,
chances are we had...
we had a sleepover probably at least 3 times a week.

She has always been an animal freak...
I'm normal... she's a cat...

I'm a scarecrow, she's a ladybug
(p.s. props to my aunt who made my costume!)

She was a cat... again... and I was a princess.

I think she finally realized how weird I was haha

But then she remembered that's why we are friends!

This was my favorite picture of us for a long time.
It showed the real us.
The psychotic, irrational, loud, annoying, 'devil child' me.
And the semi-crazy, logical, only loud sometimes, 'innocent child' that was her.
We went together, like salt and pepper, or peanut butter and jelly.
Two of a kind.

So for my quote today I'm going to write her a letter...
Dear Aspen,
Thank you for all that you have done in my life, your friendship and your love. I know I would not be the same person I am today with out you. You are a huge part of my family, we aren't related, but we are sisters. I am sorry we have grown apart the past few years, this fact leaves me absolutely distraught. I can't imagine growing up without you. I know we still talk  and we have parties every once and a while, I wish it were more often. I wish we could sit and talk for hours like when we were little. I miss that. I miss you... I love the friendship we have always had growing up, no matter the fight, we always were friends... even after I threw a microphone at your head and you bit me... I am so grateful for that. I am so blessed to have a friend like you, it's true and I know it. I know I haven't always shown it, but I really do know it! Again thank you, and I'm sorry!
Love,
Shelbie

I used my city library card for the first time since 7th grade today.
I forgot how much I love it there.
I could spend hours, no that's a lie I could spend days, at the library.

Yes this is my card from when I was 8...

Tomorrow is my friends birthday, and for years I told her I was going to get her a build-a-bear,
I finally did.
Meet Long Snot... Hope you like her Aspen

"Always remember to slow down in life; live, breathe, and learn; take a look around you whenever you have time and never forget everything and every person that has the least place within your heart.”

We all have our time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Some take us forward, they're called dreams.” ~Jeremy Irons

Well because of my lovely outdoor practice yesterday,
I came down with a cold... which is not my favorite thing.
However I love blankets and spent the later part of the day wrapped up in one lying in bed reading a book

“It's not so much that we're afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it's that place in between that we fear . . . . It's like being between trapezes. It's Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There's nothing to hold on to.” ~Marilyn Ferguson

32. February 1, 2010

I came home from school and spent the afternoon wrapped in my favorite blanket.
My aunt made this for my mom when she was in college before my mom had any children.
My older sister and I fight over it daily!
It's my favorite.
It was a big part of my childhood...
it was my blanket to wrap up in when i was sick, cold, home alone or anytime really.

Today's quote is a poem:
Childhood Memories

my childhood was the time when i was innocent
when the world seemed to be fair
when my universe was around my toys
my childhood was the time when i lived in dreams
when everyone was selfless
when everyone appeared to be a friend

my childhood was the time when my life was full of colors
when sorrows never knocked my door
when smile was gift presented to everyone

my childhood was the time when love was pure
when there were no obligations
when tenderness prevailed

my childhood was the time which is long gone
tears flow from my eyes when i go back in my childhood
my childhood will never come back but
the child in me will never go

In 7th grade one of my very best friends gave this to me.
I love it, I love the memories it has, and the memories it reminds me of.
The friend that gave it to me moved to California last year, and it reminds me of her.
I love it.

“Friends are angels who lift our feet when our own wings have trouble remembering how to fly.”

Number the Stars was one of my all time favorite books growing up.
It seems like I read it at least twice a year, every year, until 7th grade.
Then I just stopped, but I have a chance to reread it today.
I am still amazed by the courage Danish people had, and how loyal they were to their friends and country.
I know this book is fictional, but there were stories very similar to this...
They may not have been written down and those who fought so bravely may have never been recognized...
So I would like to tell all those unknown heroes how amazed I am by them, and how I will look up to them forever.

"It was only in the fairy tales that people were called upon to be so brave, to die for one another.
Not in real-life Denmark." ~Annemarie, Number the Stars (Who I think is the hero of the book)

17. January 17, 2010

I reread this book, probably for the 50th time.
During elementary school I read this book so many time I've lost count.
It's well used, the pages are falling out and there are several pages bent in the upper corner

The book tells a story of a girl who died because she had the courage to tell two gunmen that she believed in God.
I love the story.
It was written by her mother, months after her death.
She tells about her daughter, Cassie, and all the changes and phases she went through in life.

"she answered the question "Do You Believe In God?" ... and she said yes."

This is a necklace one of my childhood dolls has, I've always loved it

" The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek therefore, not to find out Who You Are, but seek to determine Who You Want to Be."
~ Neale Donald Walsch

I know this has nothing to do with this picture but still...

This is my elephant, Spencer. I got him when I was really young, he is one of my favorite gifts I've ever recieved.
